The following survey seeks to understand expectations regarding the sale prices of handmade items, and can be completed in under ten minutes.
In the United Kingdom, where creative industries employ some 50,000 people,
handcrafted items contribute approximately £3.4 billion to the economy. Similarly, many thousands in Australia and the US make their living or supplement their incomes hand crafting items for sale. However, many consumers have unrealistic expectations as to the prices of items due to the presence of cheaper, mass produced alternatives.
In addition to a few basic demographic questions, this survey asks you to provide information on what you would expect as the sale price of six different items based on an image and short description. It then asks you to estimate the time such an item would take to produce, as well as a raw material cost.
While all the images have been sourced from Etsy, the survey concludes by asking where you yourself have most often encountered handcrafted items for sale.
Feel free to share the link for this survey, particularly to any crafters you know, and especially those who make different things than you do.
Thank you for participating.
